I call it House Enemies in The Journey Home, but of course it's really Big Brother, or a show along those lines that I refer to. That's where Lewis has spotted Gavin Strang - the big dour Scotsman he took a liking to and invites to Wimbledon to watch him in the final.
I haven't seen it for a while, but there was a time when I was hooked to BB - first of all the normal version, and then more so, the celebrity version. And it seemed reasonable that Lewis might catch an edition and spot someone he liked. I certainly did on a couple of occasions, and Gavin is loosely based on one of those characters. Very loosely, I should say, but he gave the seed for Mr Strang's creation. Here's how his agent saw him on the show, and how Gavin felt about it....
“Shame you came across as such a miserable git, Gavin,” she had said to him shortly after his eviction. “I told you to camp it up a bit. Jolly queens are much more marketable than bitter ones.”
But it had blown his mind being cooped up in the House after a couple of weeks. He quickly got bored with all the fake joviality and acting up for the cameras. Gavin did his normal thing and withdrew into himself which hardly endeared him to the voting public. Losing his temper with one of the more popular contestants didn’t help matters either. He was up for eviction the following day and packing his bags at the end of the week. Bang went the bonanza of the hundred grand prize money that was there to be won if the public had actually liked him.
